“Landman” co-creator Taylor Sheridan and “Friday Night Lights” director Peter Berg are teaming up on a new video game adaption.

Deadline reported Thursday that Paramount has tapped the duo to co-write a film adaption of “Call of Duty.” The military first-person shooter franchise has spawned more than 20 titles since its inception in 2003.

In addition to co-writing with Sheridan, Berg will direct the film. Both will produce the film as well, along with 101 Studios co-founder David Glasser.

The news comes this same week word broke that Sheridan is leaving Paramount for NBCUniversal after his current deal ends. Sheridan’s deal employs him on the film side until March 2026 and in the television space through 2028.

Taylor Sheridan and Peter Berg team on ‘Call of Duty’

“Call of Duty” is the latest collaboration between Sheridan and Berg, who are lifelong friends, according to Deadline.

Berg previously produced two Sheridan projects in “Hell or High Water” and “Wind River.”

Since the summer, Paramount has eyed the two to collaborate on “Call of Duty” as Sheridan weighed if he wanted to write the script or just produce the feature, according to Deadline. Over the past few weeks, Sheridan felt the need to do both and has now teamed with his old pal.

No details have been released on what the film will be about, beyond fitting in the same action-heavy wheelhouse the games are known for.

Sheridan has experience in this department, having written “Sicario” and “Lioness.” Berg also has his military action bonafides in “The Kingdom” and “Lone Survivor.”

No release date has been set for “Call of Duty.”

Deadline says Sheridan and Berg will help develop and produce the film, which could have massive global appeal across a wide variety of demographics. Berg and Sheridan will co-write, with Berg on board to direct. Additionally, Berg will produce with his team alongside Sheridan and David Glasser.

Call of Duty will not be the first time these Texas brothers are banding together. The duo worked alongside one another on Hell or High Water, which received four Academy Award nominations, including Best Picture and Best Screenplay for Sheridan. They also partnered on Wind River.

The appeal of Call of Duty cannot be understated. The long-running video game franchise boasts numerous mainline games, spinoffs, mobile components, and multimedia adaptations, too many to list, and its audience continues to grow with every iteration. Call of Duty is one of the most successful video game franchises of all time, with each game in the series consistently ranking as a #1 bestseller in the United States for 16 consecutive years, and having sold over 500 million units globally. Hardcore fans take days off from work to play the newest chapter, and for many, Friday nights don’t pop off unless the crew gets together for some COD.

It’s important to remember the pedigree that Sheridan and Berg bring to the table. Berg’s critically acclaimed and box office smash, Lone Survivor, is a standout of the genre, while Sheridan’s Paramount+ series Lioness is a shining example of engaging military-style entertainment.

The long-awaited adaptation of one of the most successful video game franchises in history is finally taking shape, with Sheridan and Berg leading the charge both behind the camera and on the page. They are the perfect team of talent to bring this to life!

Sheridan and Berg will co-write the screenplay, with Berg set to direct. Both will also produce the film, along with David Glasser. Call of Duty is a global phenomenon. It’s been the number-one bestselling video game franchise in the U.S. for 16 straight years, with more than 500 million copies sold worldwide. Its reach extends to hundreds of millions of players, setting the stage for a film that could easily become a blockbuster series.

Both filmmakers have packed schedules even beyond this new collaboration. Berg recently wrapped The Mosquito Bowl, a World War II epic for Netflix based on Buzz Bissinger’s bestselling book, and is also executive producing a Friday Night Lights reboot. His credits also include Painkiller and American Primeval.

Sheridan, meanwhile, continues to dominate television. He recently signed a massive five-year deal with NBCUniversal, marking a shift from his long-standing partnership with Paramount.

His creative empire includes hit shows like Yellowstone, Mayor of Kingstown, Tulsa King, 1883, 1923, Lioness, and Landman. He’s also developing F.A.S.T., a Warner Bros. thriller starring Brandon Sklenar and directed by Ben Richardson, slated for release in April 2027.

Traffic disruptions on North Shore’s signature lakeside roadway are expected to move on — but unfortunately for local motorists, not far — later this month, town officials said.

Rehabilitation work to a more than 100-year-old sewer pipe beneath Sheridan Road is preparing to enter a new phase and thus end the temporary one-lane set up near the Wilmette and Kenilworth border.

Local officials say that excavation work should be complete by Sept. 29, and in October, project contractor Inliner Solutions will begin work to a section of the sewer pipe in two areas: near Langdon Park in Wilmette and between Kenilworth and Winnetka avenues in Kenilworth.

The Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago, a regional government agency that manages storm and wastewater, is rehabbing an approximately 2 1/2-mile stretch of sewer pipe constructed in 1913 plagued with solid sewage, root intrusions, offset joints and concrete erosion, an shows.

The length subject to be restored for “hydraulic and structural integrity” starts near Gillson Park in Wilmette and runs north to the intersection of Sheridan and Cherry Street in Winnetka.

According to the MWRD, the work has required multiple phases, starting first with inspecting and cleaning the sewer line before excavating to install new pipes and restore existing ones. The project will then rehabilitate 26 manhole covers and install three new ones.

Wilmette’s Village Engineer Dan Manis said Inliner Solutions, the contractor hired by the MWRD, began cleaning parts of the aging sewer pipe in Wilmette during the second half of 2024 and undertook access work to it between February and August this year.

Traffic control measures were put in place during that time and have remained in place, disrupting traffic, while the Village of Wilmette currently has a separate ongoing project restoring crosswalks, Manis said.

In October, Inliner Solutions will begin access work to a section of the sewer pipe located near Langdon Park in Wilmette. This work is anticipated to last two months; there are no other sections of the sewer in Wilmette that will require excavations or lane shifts, Manis said.

That means the most substantial portion of the traffic disruptions to Sheridan Road in Wilmette caused by MWRD’s project should be complete by the end of November. The manhole-cover work is less intrusive and only requires daylong lane closures, Manis said.

In Kenilworth, Public Works Superintendent Donny Leicht said the first section of the village’s sewer line that has required excavation and traffic controls — near the intersection of Sheridan Road and Abingdon — should be complete by Sept. 29.

The one other section of the sewer line under Sheridan Road that requires access work and traffic controls in Kenilworth — from Kenilworth Avenue to Winnetka Avenue — should be complete by Christmas, Leicht said.

Inliner Solutions began cleaning the sewer line in Kenilworth in April this year and began excavating in May, Leicht said.

In Winnetka, Director of Engineering Jim Bernahl said Inliner began cleaning the sewer line in July — near the intersections of Sheridan Road and Cherry Street, and Sheridan Road and Fuller Road — but have not yet excavated to begin any access work.

That cleaning work, which has required some traffic controls, is estimated to be completed by the end of November, Bernahl said.

He added that Inliner has raised the possibility, through informal conversations, that the contractor might be able to complete its access work to the sewer line in Winnetka through the excavation pit dug near the intersection of Winnetka Avenue and Sheridan Road.

That could potentially allow the contractor to minimize further impact on traffic; though Bernahl said he is unaware of any further information about when access work might begin in Winnetka.

According to the MWRD, the overall project will require up to three years of work and should be complete by the end of 2026.
